I won't comment (nor vote) on this code, except to say it can be made more friendly to those who copy and paste by NOT using <DATA> nor opening $0.

jeffa's script works flawlessly on my system. There may be two reasons for failure:

1. perl5.6 versus earlier versions
2. did you remove \r ?
