pmcaveman has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a mailing list which I am using sendmail with. When I submit a mailing, some (I am not sure if all) have the following header:
X-Spam: [F=0.0060124920; S=0.010(2007010901); MH=0.500(2007013016); R= +0.374(s10/n17); SC=none] X-MAIL-FROM: <anonymous@st99.myispname.com> X-SOURCE-IP: [192.yyy.zz.xxx] X-MxL-Spam-Verdict: No
I have contacted my ISP, and they have yet to respond, but perhaps am I using sendmail incorrectly? The account I am trying to mail from is not anonymous@st99.myispname.com.

Thanks,

-Kevin

    And your perl question is ?

    --shmem

    _($_=" "x(1<<5)."?\n".q·/)Oo.  G°\        /
                                  /\_¯/(q    /
    ----------------------------  \__(m.====·.(_("always off the crowd"))."·
    ");sub _{s./.($e="'Itrs `mnsgdq Gdbj O`qkdq")=~y/"-y/#-z/;$e.e && print}

    That's probably not from anything on the sending side but on the receiving side. Those X- fields are from some spam filtering software (SpamCop?) - there's nothing you can really do but ensure the mail you're sending is not spam!

    Update: A bit of googling makes me think this could be happening on the sending side but upstream from you (your ISP or your ISP's provider) is spam checking the email. Still nothing to worry about as long as your not sending spam (when that X-MxL-Spam-Verdict is set to yes). Why do you find this problematic?

      I was just curious to know if I am using sendmail correctly, because I am trying to send it from news@mywebname.com, not anonymous@st99.myispname.com.

      I saw a note when I was digging for info that menitoned I should send it as From: news@mywebname.com <news@mywebname.com>, rather than the From: news@mywebname.com that I had previously.

      I see it as problematic because I have this big header of gunk at the top of all of the emails I am sending out. Hopefully I can test the above item when I get home later.

      Thanks for the help,

      -Kevin
