Nice try - but it's not that!! It's got to do with renaming the file immediately before using it in the lib file. Not sure why that's happening (details above). Thanks for your help	[reply]

That's great, thanks to all - using indirect File Handles would have presumably saved me from that so help from all three contributors. I'm very grateful...	[reply]
