Is there any way to get e-mail alerts when specific CPAN modules get a new release ?

Not email, but it'd be trivial to scrape the CPAN uploads feed and highlight/filter for any modules of interest.

The RSS feed, as pointed out by Fletch, is the way to go. Note that uploads are in terms of distributions, not modules (a distribution contains one or more modules).

To find out which distribution holds the module you're insterest in, have a look at /modules/01modules* (adjust to your local mirror). There are a couple of modules (heh) written that help you deal with the finer details of working with these files.
