hi,

why not adding a "Keywords" textbox to the "Add your question" form?

In this way the starter of a node can specify some few words that he/she thinks are mostly significant to categorize his/her question. Then some experienced user can check the node after replies and make final modifications if necessary. If uniform keywords are used than a very effective index is available.

roberto

I'd hate to add yet another task to vroom's to-do list--have you seen Super Search? That's a way to search for specific words and phrases within nodes, basically amounting to a keyword search. You can also limit your search results to specific sections of the Monastery, which you wouldn't necessarily be able to do under a keyword index. I hope you can find what you're looking for that way, for now.
Search nodes by keywords? (was Re: keywords)

Instead of having another field for keywords, why not choose a good, descriptive title instead? In fact if you choose your title right (maybe "Search nodes by keywords?" rather than just "keywords"), then a separate keywords field actually becomes redundant.

I still believe there is a difference between an index by keywords, and a powerful search engine: in the first case you have a human that uniforms the keywords, in the latter you have all the people using their phrasing and terminology (e.g. see my bad quality title to this node).
Mine was not a criticism at all, just a consideration of someone learning perl. And when I study I find an index very useful.
Anyway - according to what I've seen - I think this is by far the best website on perl around: I really commend the authors for their effort, and I'll sure browse around to learn; even without the keywords... ;)

I have a suggestion for you. Since this is a very open place, whose main purpose of existence
is to enhance the learning of Perl, why not drop the name of Anonymous Monk and become
a member of the Monastery. I think that you will bequite glad that you did. The senior monks
here are very knowledgable, and are always willing to help and answer questions.

In the end, there can be only one!
