Installing PAR pp

QM has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm on a virgin windoze machine, need to install PAR pp, but can't seem to get it to go. I've done this before, once, on another machine, but it's been a long time, and I don't recall how I did it then.

I've got the latest ActivePerl, and the pp install tarball from CPAN. I ran perl makefile.pl, seemed to go OK. Trying to run nmake, but can't find the makefile I should run it against. Maybe the perl makefile.pl didn't run to completion?

Anyway, I thought there was a simpler way, but my fuzzy brain isn't recalling it. Can someone help me out?

If you're on a Windows box, try doing: `ppm install PAR` on the command line. The latest Windows version is v0.973. Where do you want them* to go today?*	[reply] [d/l]

Please can you paste your output. Just a thought, I presume you have a C compiler installed - you'll need one to build PAR from source. MS Visual Studio and C++ 6 works. If you're having trouble going down this route, try Strawberry Perl - although it's alpha, it really works with CPAN out of the box! If you are going down the PPM route, please bear it in mind that the version of PAR in ActiveState's repository is pretty ancient - you might want to look around other repositories. -- Apprentice wetware hacker	[reply]

I didn't capture the output, as it was really long. Using `ppm install --force PAR` did the trick. Incidentally, on my older machine, I've had some disk problems, and the PAR/pp wasn't working correctly. I uninstalled all the Perls, and reinstalled the latest AS Perl, then installed PAR there as well, with no problems. (One of the problems that popped up in both places before the fix was MakeMaker [I think] needing a newer version of Win32::Cwd than came with the latest PAR on CPAN.) -QM -- Quantum Mechanics: The dreams stuff is made of	[reply] [d/l]
