That's not news, that's a review of Richard Stallman. The man is an idealist and he's found a way of living up to his own standards. You might not be willing or able to do that but he at least shows that it's possible.

What do you mean, your Nvidia card doesn't work with them? Nor your cell phone link (You shouldn't be using one. See above). Nor your photoprinter. Nor your scanner. Nor your home wifi or cable modem. Hmm. I wonder how he copes?
For what it's worth, my nvidia card works fine with the GPL'd drivers, except for 3D acceleration, which you generally don't need to make a living as a programmer, my HP scanner/photoprinter has official GPL'd drivers from HP and my WIFI/adsl modem runs linux.

I'm not going into the whole "but we can't make money selling free software" strawman. Most programmers don't make money selling software; they make get paid for making software. Plenty of people do get paid for writing / supporting free software.
