Thanks a lot guys, I just changed the 'open' expression to :

open (PULLINFO, "$exName $executables{$exName}{'flag'} 2>&1 |") or die("blasted cutthroats...  can't they refrain from \"$! \"-ing?");

and everything works just fine!
