in reply to OpenGL: Perl vs Python

Linux performs up to 10X faster than Windows (Vista) using POGL's test.pl FBO test app.

That dosn't surprise me, from what I hear, Vista is designed to constantly monitor you for breaking their DRM bullsh*t. They probably need to check every OpenGL command to make sure they didn't sneak a free mp3 in there, or even open a socket to check it.

I bought a laptop with a forced preload of Vista, and it had a 1 Gigabyte "private" partition setup on it. What it's for?.... I can only guess or I'll be breaking their agreement about not trying to figure out (reverse engineer) their spying system.

Those have been on OEM machines for a while (though usually they use a hidden partition). It's usually harmless diagnostic utilities. You can get rid of it by zeroing the hard drive and reinstalling.

That s what I did, but I reinstalled SlackwareLinux. :-)

AFAIK, Microsoft has removed OpenGL from Vista. All benchmarks using OpenGL apps and games show terrible performance on Vista, unless you use some special drivers. Who uses Vista anyway? :)
