in reply to How about some complimentary space preceding "<!-- Node text goes above. Div tags should contain sig only -->"

For each post, I have to click on

Node text goes above. Div tags should contain sig only

How so? I don't! Well, maybe because I don't have a sig. (Some time later...) Ok, I've tried and I understand what you mean. Since the sig insertion is automatic, it should not be put at all in the text composition window: doing so screams for on the fly modifications, or removal altogether. But why? Anyway, I do not have your problem either, since I have some text in my node template, that comes out before the sig. (Removing the sig again...)

Simple reason to do sigs as they are...you don't have to just put a sig in your node template, you can put other tags you like to use. The other is simplicity, this is done and works, and if it ain't broke, nobody is going to volunteer to fix it ;)

Even if they do, their are other complications. Like do you keep all sigs in a seperate field per node? or just automaticaly append a users sig when you view their node (but then historic signatures disappear when you change yours. Well I could ramble on and on, but the point is it works and has some nice features that would be harder to accomplish other ways so I say leave it! ;)

Do not misunderstand me: I thoroughly second that. It's also not a problem for me because I do not have a sig here and I don't want to, although I have several ones for email. Anyway I agree that the sig must become part of the message, unlike in those fora in which it changes everytime in all of what you ever wrote, when you modify it: it's true that one should not comment sigs, but if she does, then her message may risk of losing sense if that mechanism was in place. Yet I'd conceptually prefer it not to appear at all in the composition window, but only to be appended after submitting. It's just me, probably, and as I wrote I don't really mind...

I want it in the composition window, because sometimes I remove my sig for one-line-posts, to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
