Rules should not be there for the sake of the rules, but to accomplish an objective efficiently( well hopefully). A number of people break the rules, including me( especially me) when they don't know any better.

Indeed that's what I've always thought about rules: both in real life and in Programming, with all that's in between those two extremes, they should be there for the people and not the other way round: the people for the rules. I don't want to delve to much into a political/sociological discussion, but that's it: I don't know if a world with no rules at all, or with rules made up by you would be a better one (although as a person with a penchant for libertarian thought I tend to feel like that) but I like to notice that unlike in national authorities, in virtual communities and in programming languages I like (Perl, basically) rules are not there for the sake of being, that is for me to obey them, and they don't get in my way: they're simply out of common sense and they help me along the way.
