creating a standalone app

rsiedl has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

hi monks,

so far all my perl experience has been web based and now i'm looking to write an application for my ipaq.

my ipaq can run both wince and familiar and because i've been using perl for a few years, it would be nice to stick with that as the language.

basically, i'm after thoughts or pointers on which path to take or how to get started.

any help would be appreciated.

PerlApp or the pp component of PAR may do the job. Neither of them specifically mention WinCE though, so some experimentation may be required. PAR is under the Artistic License, so therefore free to play with. PerlApp is part of ActiveState's Perl Dev Kit but I think you can get a trial version. Hope that helps.	[reply]

I don't know if it runs on a IPaq, but srezic has a module for handhelds at tk-appmaster I'm not really a human, but I play one on earth. Cogito ergo sum a bum	[reply]

my ipaq can run both wince and familiar That's lovely - I've never noticed before that WinCE, can be rendered as 'wince'. So much suffering in a single name... :) With regards your question, I don't have any answers, but I'm in the same position: lots of mod_perl experience, no desktop GUI experience, and I'd like to try my hand at a desktop app, so I'll follow this thread with interest.< Clint	[reply]
