in thread Flávio Glock hired by Portuguese IT Company Vertical One

I can understand the concerns of some who may have possibly downvoted it due to the fact that it is more of a personal ad in favour of one Perl-person than an actual piece of Perl News proper

I'll be honest and admit that I downvoted it, sorry if I'm a party pooper. The reason I downvoted is that it's a press release, sounds very much like a press release, released by a company to promote themselves. I want to read the wisdom of Perl monks here, not newsvertisements which I can find in abundance all over the place whether I like it or not.

And why would fglock not simply mention it himself?

Out of unpretentiousness and/or having more important stuff to do?

Yes, that's the pourpose of the voting system at all. But I disagree on your reasoning. News is not "newsvertisement" just because it refers a company. The event itself is more important than the company who protagonized it.
