Why did you remove the /x option? Without it, all those spaces in your regex above will have to match the test exactly, and it will fail if they do not.

Why did you remove the /s option? Without it, the regex will not work.

Why did you remove the /m option? Without it, the regex will not work.

Why did you get rid of the my $def ...? Without it, you are just making life hard for yourself.

How do you expect this (select[^\.\.]) to match everything between the select and the end of the statement?

Did you read the comments and explanations I posted? Did you make any attempt to understand them?

Honestly, if you want to do this task, you are going to have to put some effort in. I ain't going to do it all for you.
