googolp has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

My GoogleFu is poor, I need your help Monks. I am taking files from PC and translating them into MAC. Perl's chr doesn't work properly between 128 and 256. I have tried 'use encoding' but alas I am stuck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    This depends on encoding. ASCII is 7 bits. If you need identical encoding for more than 7 bits, try UTF8. The upper characters may not be as you're used to, but they'll be consistent.
