Try to get an OPLOCK (oportunistic lock) on the file... if it's in use, you can't.

I'd imagine that the Win32 related modules will have something for you there.

    David, thanks for the reply....I've been looking at the Wiin32 modules but so far I don't see one that applies, although I'm still reviewing... Cheers phil
