But then, it's not particularly convenient for me to consider gathering it all together knowing full well that it's going to be ignored because I don't write unix code.

That's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy then. Without even a proposal, or pseudocode, or something, it's awfully difficult to get this code written.

There is nothing self-fulfilling about this prophecy.

Unless there is at least one person on the Parrot core team who understands the importance of threading to the future of Perl 6 (and any other language that will sit atop the parrot VM), any threading Parrot provides will be a tack-on solution. And that tack-on solution, if it ever happens at all, will suffer all the same problems, and the same decade of near uselessness that iThreads have suffered.

And as of now, there is no such person.

Okay. Which Parrot committer should I fire because he or she doesn't care about what you care about? We clearly can't add any more people to the core team. All that's left is for someone like me to tell the other volunteers what to do.

Threading is absolutely critical to Perl 6 and other languages that will run on Parrot. We have a prototype implementation, and the core design document addressing concurrency, a work in progress, will be completed early next year. I'll review the substantial portions of this thread as I polish off the document.

It's not what I care about, and your attempts to make this personal are wasted.

You are exactly right, you cannot impose a view point upon your fellow volunteers. Even if that view point represents a critical requirement.

And that is exactly the problem with OS projects.
