To name a couple:
Some use the built-in blog functions to chronicle their doings and goings-on. Others use the spam functions like myspace's 'bulletins' to harass multiple people at a time. It's a simple way to share photos & vids. Just making myself available has provided quite a few business opportunities.
For all the silliness, there's quite few useful things.

I'm using Linked-In as a way to remember to keep in contact with people from previous groups and jobs. Every month or so, I review my connections there and send off a few e-mails to check in with people. In a way, I guess it's an address book, but the nice part is that people there keep their own contact info updated for me. If a former co-worker changes jobs and home city, they update their info and I can easily contact them. | [reply] |
I'm a big fan of LinkedIn, as I got my current job through networking that I did on LinkedIn. I'm on Facebook, but mostly for the "social" aspect, although I'm rarely logged on. Mostly, I'm on these social networking sites to help people find me.
