More often than not developers of "production code" aren't admins, and reducing your workload may very well increase the workload of others - the admins, who have to package CPAN modules according to their standards and OSes they administer, maintain the repositories and take care that everything works as it did.

From that point of view, using List::MoreUtils (containing XS code) for the sake of uniq actually adds to the overall workload.
