Your expect script is spawning kermit, which supports zmodem, while your perl script is spawning telnet, which doesn't. The easiest way to resolve that would be to run kermit from the perl script too.

    What else supports zmodem? I am searching for a module or something different because kermit doesn't work with this Unisys system anymore. Telnet works great.
      sz and rz from the lrsz package might be of help but you will still be spawning them to do the transfer.
