I'd start by looking for something that supplies that functionailty at all. Only you can decide what's "too many dependencies" :)

Do you need to send both plain and html versions of the message? If so, you might need a separate MIME module in addition to whatever sends the message.

Untried by me, I see Mail::Webmail::Gmail. I don't think Mail::Sender does TLS. You might have best luck installing ssmtp, configured to use gmail (see http://www.destr0yr.com/article.php/Gmail_and_sSMTP).
