rbi has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,
I need to plot data in different ways, including contours over geographical maps in different projections.
I've found the DISLIN library, that has also extensions for Perl.
It seems to be fitting (mostly) my needs, but I wonder if there is anything better available that someone of you is using or can compare.
By the way, DISLIN is not on CPAN.

    Gnuplot is an open source plotting program which has support for contours and the like. It runs on most different OSs. You can access the functions of this program via Chart::Graph and a plugin, Chart::Graph::Gnuplot directly from perl, producing image file output for further use.

    You could also take a look at the PGPLOT module, and if your quest is geographical, I would take a look at PDL. The latter is often used by your colleagues, as I understand.
