You couldn't guarantee that anyways, even in prod. Just look at how often parameter names change in Oracle, let alone MySQL or Apache. Just get it done. :-)
My criteria for good software:
  1. Does it work?
  2. Can someone else come in, make a change, and be reasonably certain no bugs were introduced?
