I notice this is your first post, welcome to the Monastery. You should read the PerlMonks FAQ and How do I post a question effectively? if you have not already done so, since you have posted this question in the wrong section of this forum.

You should take a look at quotes in Perl from the Strings subsection of the tutorials section of this site. Since you say you are new to Perl, you may want to have a look at some of the Getting Started with Perl tutorials also.
