This is the best place to start, POE Cookbook. Lots of small working samples of managers, clients, servers, and combinations of them. (update: up-cased Poe.)

    Yes, I see that the cookbook has lots of examples, but it doesn't seem to contain an introductory discussion of what POE is and why you'd want to use it. Perhaps the intention is that users will figure this out by osmosis. Or else maybe it's usefulness is hard to see unless you've already painstakingly implemented certain things yourself, by hand (things which would've been easier using POE).
