Having reached the end of the First Quarter of 2001, it is now right and proper to pause and review our Perl Resolutions for the year.

If you made any Perl Resolutions for 2001, take a moment to review them and to reflect on your progress. Then, if you feel so inclined, update us on your progress.

Now is also a good time to remove outdated resoutions, add any new ones that you've signed up for, or fine tune ones that'll stay on your list.

If you didn't make any Perl Resolutions for 2001, consider joining in now. Who is to say that resolutions made 3 months late are only worth 75%?

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

chose your resolution well, so you can feel successful

That seems to have been the result of my resolutions, for although my workload is a lot higher than last year, I'm still keeping Outside Links up to date and collecting links.
That part of our monastery has grown quite a bit since I moved the links from my homenode.

The other resolution, namely giving niederrhein.pm a good start, worked out as well. We have had 3 meetings so far, and the next one is coming up in April. There are eight of us, and since beginning of march we are taking part in the O'Reilly User Group Program.

Right now I feel successful. :)

    I'm making lukewarm progress.

Resolution 1 is to "point people in the right direction" rather than answering too many questions directly, on the theory that people get more out of a problem when they're able to solve it themselves. Progress is here is so-so: it's too easy to just jump in and blurt out an answer. This one stays on the list, and gets more attention.

Resolution 2 is to double-check spelling before posting. Progress here is good, and I am thankful to my fellow monks for the occassional "you've got a typo" /msg

Resolution 3 is to lose 30 pounds by year-end. Progress here is retrograde, and I'll defer further evaluation at this time. :(

    To these I'll add:

Resolution 4 is to reimplement on my own time several project management scripts that I find useful so that I can post them for the general good.

    Ouch... Re: Perl Resolutions

Looking at my 7 I'm not doing too good.

    • No modules worthy of CPAN yet.
    • Worked on one bug but it too isn't worthy yet.
    • I'm sticking with extremely so that one is a wash =)
    • I've been pretty good on variable names.
    • I'm working on the "You" module. I should try and get it done for April Fools but I don't see it as likely.
    • I met up multiple times with jeffa and notsoevil and I bought a round once... =) We have to do something again soon.
    • I'm doing better on the tags thing. I'm even going to switch my personal site to XHTML so I can autocheck it easier.

Oops, I ALMOST submitted this without the </ul> tag. How stupid is that? =)

I've been dreading this, but that's why I posted my resolutions. I posted my resolutions prior to the official(?) Perl Resolutions at On the Road to Perl Enlightenment, My 100th Post, and New Year's Resolutions Here's the grist:

Just so that it's written before witnesses, (to put some pressure on myself) here are my new year's resolution's for 2001:

        1. Figure out how to be of assistance in chromatic's jellybean project, so as to add at least two usefull perlmonk objects.

Ack, Ack, Ack... I've been following the jellybean mailing list with much interest wishing I could find the focus to get involved. But activity on this resolution is nill

        2. I will make myself sit down and write at least one decent JAPH.

More Acks. (Here come the excuses) When I made my resolution I had no idea that I'd have to be fluent in EJB's before the end of the year (no prior exposure).

        3. I will use all of my votes daily on perlmonks.

Not too bad on this one I have come in and at least read Best Nodes and selective Newest Nodes and used most of my votes daily. Sometimes it's been hard to even keep to this goal but I'm pretty good on this one.

        4. I will push myself to post code instead of opinions.em>

Ahh and embarass my self I did with Dice::Dice and Beginners OO Workbench but I did learn a lot and checked off this resolution. (I know that's a cop out to stop there:)

And if I don't keep these minimal personal resolutions -- I resovle to create a new permonks login and start over in 2002.

I can say already there's no way I'm starting over *g*, but I still haven't given up on checking them all off.
