I am using google analytics for web stats. I have made a small package and want to keep track of how many times it has been downloaded.

    • Get list of accessed URLs from logs
    • Extract URLs which refer to said "small package"
    • Count the number of references
    • Profit!

    This is really a Google Analytics question.

    How about having "download.html" use Javascript to automatically start the download (of course, after GA's JS code gets run.) Then just look up the statistics for "download.html".

    Do you have access to your server logs? Parsing them directly might be a better option.
