Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am new to perl..... i have installed Active perl 5.8.8.817 , working on windows XP... i am trying the ppm install "xyz module...." but it is giving error as " 'ppm' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." same error is with CPAN please help me out..........

    You probably just need to add your perl\bin folder to the path.

      or reboot, as activeperl's installer generally does that already

    Control panel - System, tab "advanced", button "Environment variables", add <path to the bin directory> to the PATH variable. You shouldn't have to reboot.

    But you can first test it's correct working by navigating to the bin directory and execute the ppm tool.

    I use the Active perl and ppm myself under XP and it is my favourite distribution. I especially like the ppm GUI:-)

    I have a similar setup, so I'll try to help you.

    Are you online when you run ppm? Are you using the ActiveState batch file?
