intelligentdesign has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am attempting to install ActivePerl 5.10.0.1001 on Windows ME. I receive this error: "PerlSE.dll failed to register". I clicked "Ignore" and continued with the installation. Use of my script requires Email-Address-1.888. When attempting to use the Perl Package Manager to install it, I received this error: ERROR: Don't know how to copy C:\WINDOWS.000\Temp\ppm-4qcXxf/Email-Address1.888/blib/html/?|???U?? In fact, I get this error when attempting to install any module. My script will not run correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you can install AP 5.10 on Win ME. From the site of ActiveState, the requirements for this version are:

    • x86 or x64 architecture
    • Windows 2000, XP or Vista: No additional requirements.

I tried to install ActivePerl on a Win 98 SE box and it gave me a hell of problems. And it was four years ago, don't remember the version.

Rule One: "Do not act incautiously when confronting a little bald wrinkly smiling man."

Were you able to install earlier versions of Perl on ME without problem?
