Thanks for the response. I am also a little concerned though that some other programs on the same machine could also be using these signals (or some programs in the future).	[reply]

Sending signals is restricted by the operating system - so no random user can send these signals, but only root and the user that your program runs under. (At least on unixish systems).	[reply]

I'm not sure I understand - are you saying there is a separate set of SIG signals per user? ie. that if an application running as root generates a SIGUSR1 it will be ignored by my perl code? (This is running on Solaris BTW) Thanks!	[reply]
