If direct communication with the maintainer is providing no relief then I would do exactly what others have suggested (private copy) for the short term *but* I would also use the semi-official channels of rt.cpan.org, cpanratings.perl.org, and www.annocpan.org to document the problems. Personally, I've gone the rt.cpan.org route in the past ... it can get ugly but if it gets too ugly, you can always fork (ala Class::DBI and DBIx::Class).
