What about other users of the package? How do they feel about the changes that have been made? Is there a mailing list, or an active CPAN forum for the package? Blogs? Even the CPAN ratings can be used to exress your concerns.

Surely if the changes are as poor as you say, somebody somewhere will be talking about them. If they're not, then perhaps the changes aren't as severe as you thought.
