Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Where does one find info on how internet radio software works. I know this is not really a perl question, but I looked everywhere I could think of on the net and came up with nothing. Your help would be much appreciated.

If you have any specific questions, let me know. I've been running an internet radio station on and off for 5 years or so (the past year I've finally been able to keep it up 24/7).

I use a combination of custom software and Shout.pm, a Perl interface to libshout, a library for streaming to a Shoutcastish server.

My server's front page is located here.

And I would like to point out because it's so damn funny is that one (1) (uno) (single) day after writing this (especially the "up 24/7" bit) I had my connection pulled due to bandwidth limits.

    Check the following thread:
MP3 server with IO::Socket. It's a bit too simple to build an Internet radio, as you will soon realize, but it can be a good starting point.
I also seem to recall and atricle in The Perl Journal last year about a perl-based Internet radio setup. I can't seem to get to the site to find it right now (is it down or just my proxy?), but if you search for MP3 there you should find it.

I read the article, but didn't have a big need for it at the time. Not certain if it will meet all of your needs, but interesting none the less.
