Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there any listing for the many modules on CPAN equivalent to the whatis listing on my linux box? I've looked at several of the *.readmes and found while some describe what's in the module, many just say "download it, unzip it, install it, read the POD." Thanks, Mike

    Reading the POD is probably the best thing to do. However, to do that you don't have to install the module first - the same documentation can be viewed online at CPAN.
