Hmmm,

Having recently been viewing a number of lengthy threads, I've found the process of having to scroll down to the bottom of the page in order to cast a single vote rather tedious - I wondered that, if at all feasible, if it would it not be a bit more useable if there were a [vote] link for each node in the thread ... working alongside the button at the end of the page ?

Just a thought ...

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))

Had the same problem, but there's a simple trick:

type the RETURN key for submitting your votes ! : )

      Good call, TFT LanX.

I've been somewhat reticient to do that thus far, JIC I got a bollocking along the lines of Whoa cowboy, you said that already ... once again underpinning my sig ;-)

Your welcome ... it's an often forgotten but standard browser behavior to bind RETURN to the "submit" button of the focused html-form. But that doesn't necessarily always work, because not all webpages use "submit" buttons ... : (

BTW: Sorry what does TFT and JIC mean? Couldn't find the "PM Slang" help-page via "Need Help"-link...

I would be concerned that adding a vote button to each node would:

    • Encourage/facilitate hasty (and possibly ill-considered?) voting.
    • Add to the load on the server (admittedly, without any specific knowledge of their current loading).
    • Require some distinctly non-trivial patching to effect.

To ease the tedium, you could open, in a new tab, any node upon which you wish to vote, singleton... if you would find that less burdensome.

So, you're going to cast a vote before you read the rest of the thread to see whether other replies may change your opinion of the piece you want to vote on? Perhaps the piece wasn't as good (or bad) as you first thought it was. ;-)

Furthermore, here's a hint: scrolling to the end of a page can in most browsers be archieved by hitting the "END" button. And (but that depends on your widget set), if I button-3 click near the bottom of the scrollbar, the page scrolls to the bottom.

I agree with this. I have in the past up-voted things which a more experienced/wise monk later demonstrated to be flawed or completely wrong. It can be good to read through everything and even wait for more follow-ups.

IMHO the first replies are always overrated!

a statistical analysis might proove it ... and may give a weighting factor to correct this

(which of course is a purely theoretical idea and no suggestion!)

With dreamy Vimperator, going to the bottom of the page is just pressing G, like in Vim.
The advantage over the End key is that it's right under your left index finger.

Wow, I am definitely bookmarking Vimperator. Thanks for the link!

And you didn't even know bears could type.

Believe me, if you already are a Vim user, you won't want to browse with your mouse ever again.

Key driven navigation lets you - among other goodies - access the "vote" button by hitting "v". Tweak as needed. </plug class="shameless">
