UPDATE: 29 Sept, 2010.... In case people see this old node, I don't recommend 3ix anymore. At first, it seemed a great price, but after about 2 months, I get cut off and told to call their tech support, who claimed my site exceeded bandwidth and I needed to upgrade to a more conventially priced service. I doubt my static site exceeded 100 gigabytes per month. So beware all seekers of cheap hosting....they suck you in, then wait for you to get all setup, then try to raise your price. ;-(

But that was just my experience....they may be Ok

Hi, First I'm not getting kickbacks for this, but I found a cheap web service provider that supports Perl for $1/month ( 2 years for $26 ) and I thought it might interest someone who wanted to test cgi, but balked at the $5 or $6 per month fees.

My old provider( unamed) wanted $6/month and all I got was PhP cgi.

Anyways, its 3ix.com and here is a perl cgi script showing the Perl modules available there. testperl at 3ix

No guarantees for uptime or speed, but it's a good cheap testbed.

Is this, found in testperl correct?

    Perl Version: 5.008008
It's actually 5.8.8, as we normally talk about versions here.

heh, I can't reach the server.

The phrase "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. ;-)

      HTH,

      planetscape
It seems to be working fine now. Maybe they had a snow-storm related outage? ikegami's reported outage only lasted about 30 minutes.

Further interesting info: Their cpanel is pretty nice and setting up SpamAssasin on your mailboxes is made very easy.

And of course, yes, you can't expect much for $1/month, but it meets my needs. I only need to have a place to put some files for public availability, and test some cgi occaisionally.

Sh*t I probably overloaded them with that testperl script. :-(
