perhaps you can just create links in /usr/local:

ln -s /usr/{,local/}lib/perl5/5.8.3
ln -s /usr/{,local/}lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3

    I wonder why this didn't come to my mind. the issue is resolved now after creating the soft links.
