Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the Perl Black Book by Steven Holzner. I am searching for a good book. I have basic (school) knowledge of Perl, but I am interested in learning a lot more.

Take a look at the Book Reviews node. There are plenty of books listed there.

This is a good book if you don't get annoyed with the story telling method of presenting things. I have it, but I don't use it often because I usually find what I want in the Camel or Cookbook. I've used it primarily when I can't find what I need in one of those, or as a further reference. It covers a large amount of subjects in a depth that at least gets you going. Just my opinion as I'm sure there are others who hate this book.
