vit has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear Monks,
I am creating a large index with a complex structure on my PC using ActiveState perl, which I am going to ftp to the Linux host.
Storable is working amazingly fast but creates a binary file.
Is there any way to create a file which can be used accross platforms.

Storable is cross-platform, as long as you use the same version of Storable on both machines.

You also may find JSON::XS or YAML::XS useful. Both are fast enough to compete with Storable. Oh, and they also more portable.
