Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm working on a perl script and I want to look up words to see if they match results of permutations... but the only examples I've seen of matching in perl use /usr/dict/words. I'm stuck on a windows NT machine, using active state perl. Is there anything similar available? Thanks, liz

    Other good word lists include:

ENABLE (scroll down to find it on the page)

The Moby Project (also includes a thesaurus, a pronunciator, and other fun stuff)

If you are looking for something to fuzzy match strings, I'd suggest String::Approx.

Just had to throw my 2 cents in.

The biggest word lists that I have found are normally on fanatical scrabble players sites. You might try running some searches on those kinds of places :-)
Thank you ALL! All of the sites mentioned are just what I was looking for - now, to decide which one to use... liz
