In a recent SoPW, a question was asked on how to prevent a message board from becoming flooded with messages; the solutions offered basically consisted of added a hidden time field to the form that would be checked and if that time was already seen and recorded as done, the message wouldn't be accepted.

Would not the same thing work with the chatterbox to avoid the doubletalk that sometimes happens when one refreshes a page when the last action was to talk in the CB? Embed a hidden time field, and if when checking the message by that user, there was already another message at the same time, just ignore it and possibly let the user know that the message wasn't used. If you want to be a bit careful for those that use the browser navigator instead of the site navigation, you could always have a second check to see if the message already sent matches that that wants to be sent, and drop it if they match.
