well, it looks like my problems are over, found this handy tool:

Did a dump of the database and it looks ok. it uses mdbtools.

    I am glad you are happy with this solution. DBD::mysql is miles better than DBD::ODBC with mdbtools (due to mdbtools having a truly horrendous ODBC driver) but I suspect in time you will find you have just swapped a large set of problems for a slightly smaller set of problems. Best of luck, I suspect you'll need it.

      Thanks but what I only needed was a dumb of the database, after that, it's mysql all the way. And it allowed me to waste energy experimenting with dbi and odbc.
