Convert BMP to JPEG

Sewi has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Update: Sorry, I read Image::Magick website and they didn't write anything about BMP, so I didn't test it myself. Now I tested it and it works. Ignore this post.

Which module reads a BMP image (preferrable from a string and not from a file) and allows me to write it as a JPEG image?
I tried GD and Image::Magick, but neither reads BMP.

Image::Magick reads BMP format images, and so does Imager, at least if you look at Imager::Files. I don't have any first-hand experience with GD, but I believe it's mostly targetted at generating GIF (and PNG) files, not reading or manipulating images.	[reply]

GraphicsMagick is a sonic alternative fork of ImageMagick promised to be more friendly with multi-processor systems and probably a thing to know about as a new for nerds.	[reply]
