Although you signed up in May, you've only started posting in the last week, so perhaps you don't yet have a feel for how this site works. Unlike some message boards, PerlMonks has a community of people who log in daily to read posts, answer questions, and chat with each other. If you need help with an ongoing problem that is a wonderful thing: we can get to know you and your problem and work with you until you have a solution. However, you can only get the benefit of that continuity if you continue working on the problem within the same thread.

In fact, that is how we prefer to work. As you have noticed, some monks get just a bit irritated when people open up new threads for the same recently discussed problem. Though it may not be your intent, it comes across as "forum shopping". It is hard to help someone without face to face contact or the opportunity to sit side by side staring at the terminal together scratching our heads and wondering why that darn thing just won't work. Keeping everything on the same thread, helps us compensate by using our past history with the problem.
