What's the difference between /lib and /site/lib? They both seem to be for the same purpose, so what's the point of having two?

If you're talking about paths in @INC, I've always thought core modules go in /usr/lib/perl/version/ and installed modules in /usr/lib/perl/site/version/.

I can't find that in the docs in under 5 minutes, though.

Probably the same difference between /usr and /usr/local - the former in both cases contains files that are provided by the distribution, while the latter are for files that are installed by the person in charge of the site.
