I am a newbie and I find this thread Re: Re: Quiz 2 (for newbies only) very interesting. I would like to reiterate that whatever I express here is not against, or for chipmunk, eureka_sg, or the Anonymous Monk I don't have an account here which is why I am also a AM here. Just like to say something I observed as a newbie before i totally disappear as I don't have much free time from next month onwards.

I am working with the CID dealing mainly in computer frauds.

With regard to AM's accusation about euraka_sg, personally, I feel that AM is right. I have carefully read through the posts posted by eureka_sg and bambam. If you notice eureka_sg's post Re: Deleting specified files and directories and most of his other posts, he uses the salutation "Hi" and occasionally end a sentence with ": )". If you read bambam's postRe: "Junkyard" Puzzle: Average of Numbers (Newbie approach)and Solving polynomials in Perl, it also carries the same style of writing. Go through all the monks post here and you will know the probability to have such similiarity is almost none. For a newbie to post 3 different title posts within 2 hours is very unlikely and it is even more unlikely for the same person to answer the 3 posts within 2 hours too.

I do not blame eureka_sg for manipulating the XP system because this site is designed this way. Like the saying goes "It is not how well you played the game, but it is whether you win or lose!". Here, it doesn't matter how you get the XP, but it does matter what level you are.

As for Anonymous Monk, the reason why he choose to remain AM is probably because eureka_sg is one of his "friends" here or he cannot be sure that eureka_sg and bambam is the same. It was just his wild guess. It is also not right to down vote a monk just because he felt that he has "cheated". I felt if he has doubts, he should not vote his nodes instead. If eureka_sg gets zero XP for his effort, he will abandon this plan.

I quote chipmunk's post

Why do you say this is not a site for quizes? I think that vroom is th +e only user who can categorically say what is and is not appropriate for this site. Othe +r users, such as those on Saints in our Book, will certainly be listened to if they make suggestions or +recommendations about the site. An Anonymous Monk, on the other hand, has no business telling other, + registered users how to use the site.
chipmunk has forgotten that usage of this site is clearly spelt out in the Perl Monks guide to the Monastery. For seekers of perl wisdom, this is the place where you can go when you have got a question on how to do something or are unsure why something just isn't working. Then other monks can offer you their wisdom and suggestions. It is not intended for posting quiz. Imagine if all the monks start posting quiz here, no matter how well written the quiz is. chipmunk is slapping his own face with this statement. If he feels that quiz is ok, he should propose and vroom will decide but not him deciding that quiz is ok in seekers of perl wisdom. The ironical thing he did was to upvote the quiz posted by eureka_sg because as a Saint, he should thoroughly understand what each area in the Monastery is meant for.

What I do not understand is, why let the monks here decide the XP? For the case or Merlyn, I find that he is very task oriented and he put in alot of effort here. This is commitment. Unluckily, there are monks here who down voted him just because they don't like him. For eurdil, his commitment here is almost none. What has those obsfucated code he wrote done? Only a few can understand. Most monks like him and he gets all the ++ votes.

All I can say is.....It Is Just A Matter Of Interpretation !

Update: The original node was reaped while I was in the process of composing this response. Feel free to ignore this.

You make some good points. I would like to add a few comments.

It is possible that eureka_sg and bambam are the same person. You expressed this as a likelihood, rather than as a certainty, so I won't argue. However, I am willing to accept eureka_sg's assertion that they're just coworkers. It's not of much importance to me if they are the same person, anyway.

There appears to have been some misinterpretation regarding the snippet of my post that you quoted. The anonymous monk and I were both talking about whether the site, not the SOPW section, is for quizes. You should be pleased to note that both quiz questions have been moved to Meditations. Checking The Perl Monks Guide to the Monastery again, we see that this is an appropriate section for such nodes. Fortunately, it's very easy to move nodes when they're mistakenly posted to the wrong section.

P.S. Don't be afraid to come out from behind the Anonymous Monk name and get your own username...
