      yes that was the problem..... i was not giving the full path to mysql and it was giving me that error now when i give the full path it works fine.... thanks for your help... - anjaana

    mysql doesn't work if it is not INSTALLED!!!

      it works fine from the command prompt. but when i put it in shell script its not able to locate it... that was what my question was sorry if i was not clear.

      And how do you start the script? From commandline? Which shell?
