@INC usage and $* help

lloder174 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have 2 questions: 1) Where does @INC get its values? (I'm aware of PERL5LIB's contribution and source inclusion of values thru shifting into the array) 2) What is the perl special variable $* ? (I received an error message indicating it is no longer supported and need to replace it)

These days there's also a build option -Duserelocatableinc potentially influencing @INC — just to add on what's being said in How is the default @INC constructed? mentioned by A.M., as the option didn't exist back in 2004.	[reply]

It doesn't hurt and it simplifies upgrading by saving you from reinstalling "pure perl" modules.	[reply]
