Which OS and which Perl?
CountZero A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout. There should be neither too little or too much, neither needless loops nor useless variables, neither lack of structure nor overwhelming rigidity." - The Tao of Programming, 4.1 - Geoffrey James

As already stated by others?
If you want us to help we should first know on which operating system you are (Linux, Windows, Mac, ...) Do you have Perl installed through your operating system like on Linux/Unix (You would use your distributions packaging system to add or remove software then) or do you have activestateperl, strawberry perl,
or compiled it on your own (In the last case you wouldnt ask the question i think ...)?
