Iphone Apps

Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is it possible to develop iphone/ipod apps with Perl? It is done with Objective-C, but is there any attempt is being made to develop the application in Perl and then convert to Objective-C? How difficult to learn Objective-C from Perl programmer's perspective?

Take a look at Camelbones for a good starting point. I believe it will work with the iPhone.	[reply]

I learned Objective C (without Cocoa) for kicks a few months back. It's pretty close to C, essentially "C with objects". It doesn't really have much in common with Perl. That said, if you're a competent C programmer and are used to writing code using object oriented concepts, learning Objective C is really only a matter of syntax and some very basic semantics. According to Apple's SDK run time languages like PERL are a violation of their SDK agreement. You could run it on a jail broken unit but you would not be able to distribute your application.	[reply]

So, if I'm understanding this right, there is no native Perl for the iPhone and to make one, you're basically violating their end user license? Well, that sucks.	[reply]
